After the storm

It was the end of August and my friend Ianara was about to leave to study in Madrid, so we decided to get together for one last session. We met way before the sunset, and on our way to the beach we had to stop inside a tunnel because it started hailing like crazy. It was one of those summer storms, but this one was pretty intense and even damaged the roof of the car. But we decided to go ahead and shoot photos anyway. The good thing about this kind of weather is that if the sun comes out after a storm, the light will be spectacular. And that’s what we got when we arrived to the coast.

Hope you like this set of photos!

Collaboration with portrait photographer Jon Etxezarraga

We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place. It only took us half an hour to arrive to this rocky beach and experience one of the best portrait sessions I’ve had in a while. This time I met with Jon Etxezarraga, a fellow photographer whose work mostly consists on portraits. It was the first time that we met and worked together, and I definitely loved how he carefully set up his camera and how he guided Bihozne, our model, to create such an elegant set of images (which you can check on the link above). It's interesting to see the differences in how we visualize an image; he focuses more on the person in front of him, whereas I like to make the landscape  also part of the photograph. I think it was really positive to learn so much from a collaboration like this, and I would love to keep working together with him and other fellow photographers on upcoming projects.

I think this experience made me think about how enriching it can be to go out and shoot with other photographers. There is always something new to learn (about posing models, camera gear, settings, locations, light…) and it's awesome to talk to other people about the craft you believe in.

These are some of the images I made on that sunny morning, I hope you like them!

*Thank you so much to Bihozne Artetxe and Jon Etxezarraga for all the great moments of that Saturday morning.

Urban Bilbao

Some photographs taken this month during two quick visits to Bilbao. The city has changed in the last couple of decades, and for those like me who have seen the transformation, modern architecture has taken over the areas where old factories lived in decadency.

*All photographs taken with the Fuji X100T.

*Locations: Azkuna Zentroa, Metro Bilbao, Guggenheim Museoa
